Blow
[REVIEW]
You know when you're walking home from the store and you see a
shoe on the side of the road and you wonder ... "How the hell did
that shoe get there and who's is it?" That's what this movie is
like. You wonder about it. You look at it, but you forget all about it
the next day. Do yourself a favor, if you wanna go see this movie,
instead grab
a nap, dream of having a tickle fight with Jenna Jameson or something. You
won't be able to get the two hours of your life back that this movie
takes from you.
Glorifying drug dealers in movies is actually pretty stupid if you ask
me. Hollywood loves to do that, make someone who sells crack to children
"really cool". Well since we're doing that, Hey I know, let's make people who beat
children then have sex with them cool too!! Let's get a bunch of movies
like that going. I felt uncomfortable even making that parallel in this
review but in my opinion, it's the same thing.
This isn't just a movie about a drug
dealer who made a lot of money then had a "Behind the Music"
type life, this is a movie about THE drug dealer who brought
cocaine to America. In addition, the movie tries it's hardest to make
him look like a decent guy. We like him, he has charisma, we want to
hang out with him and they even make us feel sorry for him at the end
when things go bad for him. What is going on? The guy who this movie
was based on is the very definition of Loser. If George Jung is looking
for Sympathy he should look between Shit and Syphilis in the
dictionary, because he's not getting it from me.
The actual person this
movie portrays doesn't look a THING like Johhny Depp, he looked a lot
more like those guys who spend 5 days a week sitting in the front
row of the local stripper club. They REALLY want us to like this guy
for some reason picking someone like Depp to play him. Let's compare
shall we?

| Pictured here,
Jung. The guy that Blow is based on. A real ladies
man. I can see why they cast Depp to play him. This must
be a shot of George in prison, since he's going be there
the rest of his life. Maybe he can get together with
Manson and do an album or two, cause they're both sick and
tired of being hassled by the man!! |

Welll.... Holy
crap!!
Wow! Will the real George Jung please stand up? Thank
god for the sweater or I'd be baffled as to who's who. This
is just like that episode of Star Trek when there are two
Kirks and Spock has to do some quick thinking but luckily he
made a good call. And he has a sweet haircut. Incidentally is
that a Cosby sweater? |

Here we have a movie glorifying the guy who
brought cocaine to America. ONLY in America would they celebrate the
very type of person who is destroying their country. America is actually at war
with only one thing.. and it's drugs. America has an actual WAR ON
DRUGS. So they make a movie about an anti hero who is just as
responsible as anyone for the shit show going on in the US right
now. Hollywood has NO responsibility to anyone, they hide behind
the "freedom of speech", which I very much believe in, but
holy jumping Jesus you assholes have to have a little taste.
I've been waiting for a Hellboy movie
for a thousand years and you're making movies about the guy who BROUGHT
COCAINE TO AMERICA? oh and here comes a run of the mill drug
dealer movie played by Mr. Good looking movie star, Johnny Depp. Depp, who ironically is so
sick of America, that he has moved to Paris and has been living there
for the past 6 years, Probably to raise his child. I can't speak for
Depp butI'm sure partially the reason he's accross the pond, is he
doesn't want his child growing up in a society that celebrates drug
dealers like some sort of modern age Robin Hood.
Well I have no choice now but to direct my anger at an actor
that I once thought made wise and intelligent decisions in his scripts.
Thanks Johnny Depp. My Nike cap off to you, Oh yeah and hey Depp, The Astronaut's Wife and The Ninth Gate were also
great classics, yer on a roll, maybe you might wanna do a remake of
Waterworld with Kevin Costner if you have some free time.
I've run out of steam so I can't even start in on Penelope Cruz but let me say this. The
acting in the movie is actually really good. Except for Penelope. Maybe
she's a good actor but she is so over shadowed in this movie by Depp, Ray Liotta
and even Paul Reubens, that you feel sorry for her. I don't think they
could have cast someone to hold their own with these actors.
Maybe I missed the point of the whole movie, but for
god sakes stop making icons out of people who destroy and kill hundreds
of thousands of lives. I don't wanna see "Springtime with
Hitler" and I sure as hell don't wanna see Blow again.
